Rebecca Topham,Laura Price and Ray Williams were to be found at the Hardwick sprint triathlon on August the 12th. The event comprises of a 750 lake swim 25k cycle and a 5k run.
With all three athletes on their state of art cycles there could be no excuses, well apart from Andy Kilby who didn't have a Planet X Bike and got his excuses in early (sickness DNS). Struggling to cope with his cutting edge technology Ray crashed at around 5k. Luckily, the only damage was to his pride, having worked this out, and realising that neither Rebecca or Laura had passed him, Ray jumped back on.
Behind this mayhem Rebecca and Laura re-acquainted their rivalry and a familiar pattern emerged. Laura developed a lead in the water, the competition was then more even on the bikes, but Rebecca was able to pull the bulk of the deficit back over the 25 kilometres, leaving her to move into the lead on the run, eventually finishing 2:38 ahead of Laura, despite the latters slick transitions (how these times have changed).
Rebecca was rewarded for her efforts with 3rd place in the V40 category. Laura 5th V40 and Ray 6th V50. All three achieved PBs on the day
The local event was well organised and great fun with lots of support from Dursley Club Members and the public.
