June the 20th saw Ray Williams, Andy Kilby and Jerry Fowler taking part in the Cotswold Aquathon.

Jerry Fowler’s equanimity was upset before he even started ,as when registering he was told he would be competing in the V50 category, Jerry claiming he was being made old before his time!

The event starts with a 750m swim followed by a “short” 5k run i.e. not accurately measured. The swim times include the transition from wet suits to running gear. Andy Kilby's transition would have been substantially faster as he struggled to slip out of his “snugfit” suit (bigger suit or more baby oil?).

Jerry Fowler performed well after his run the previous day and would have been faster but for a relatively slow transition, first putting on his socks, then his watch, and of course old age being what it is, he had to remember where he had put them in the first place. This was followed (allegedly!) by some frantic hair combing in a vain attempt to look younger whilst running.

Ray (the source) Williams was first in and was very pleased to be just thirty seconds off his PB for the event, clearly even at his advanced age having no problems either getting out of his wet suit (must be in a XXL) or remembering where he left his running shoes.
